About Nantahala

Celebrating 25 Years!

Michael and Jeanette have been married for 32 years and have three children. In 1997 while vacationing here we fell in love with the area; the unspoiled aspect of Swain County and the beauty of the mountains. We decided to purchase 26 acres and begin building cabins for vacation rentals. We moved the children here from Florida in 2000 and it has been a great experience for the children. The school systems are so much better than in Florida, and the girls are getting a superb education.

Our twin daughters graduated from Swain High School in May 2002. Our oldest twin daughter Carrie joined the Navy, married a Navy man, and is living in Virginia with her husband Chris Moulton and three children Emma, Chase, Maisyn. Our other twin daughter Casey is married to Arie Bird, they live in Cherokee, NC, and they have three beautiful daughters: Mahala, Madilyn & Makenzee. Our youngest daughter Shay lives in Florida, working in Engineering.

Nantahala Cabins was founded and built by Michael and Jeanette Marceau in 1998. We continue to manage, operate, and run the cabins. Michael and Jeanette’s skills complement each other. Michael’s responsibilities include building and maintaining the cabins, building and maintaining the infrastructure, and maintaining the property. Jeanette’s responsibilities include accounting, reservations, management of cleaners and maintenance, and operations. We ensure the business runs as smoothly as possible and the needs of each guest are met.

Jeanette can take the reservations while recommending specific cabins for their stay as well as helping the guest plan their vacations and itinerary. She can book many other activities for the guests. This specialized service is beneficial for the guests, many of whom have never been to this area and are unaware of the additional attractions our area has to offer.
